Hello everyone. I know we dont communicate as much in Italy but internet was not as easy or cheap as in Greece. We are in Rome now but had some fun adventures in Naples.
When we last wrote a message we were about to board our train to Bari on the way to Naples. Well our train to Naples (for which we had to pay an extra 5 euro reservation fee) encountered some technical problems and was stopped for around an hour half way to our connecting train. Well we missed our connection and ended up taking a different train which would leave us farther from our hostel than we expected. We arrived at the station in Naples at midnight and found out the metro was closed and there were no more trains. We quickly found out that Italians are very friendly and helpful even if they dont know a word of english. Our conductor asked us where we were going and pointed us to the bus station. There a friendly bus drivers flagged down a zooming bus for us (we thought the bus was going to end up sideswiping a car). That bus driver gave us a free ride and frantically pointed to the exit to tell us to get off. A lady at a corner store then gave us perfect instructions on how to get to the hostel, however we didnt understand her so we ended up slightly off until a parking lot attendant drew us a map. Next thing we knew we were in bed.
The room was cheap but had not much else, the breakfast was small (extra charge for an apple). We took a lazy day the first day and went for some fantastic neopolitan pizza. It was so good we went back the next day. And a plain cheese pizza taste really really good when made correctly.
The next day we found a way to get to pompei on our eurail and toured both the new and old town. Its really big and full of history however we didnt take a guide so im sure we missed out on quite a bit (We did find a really well preserved brothel). We had some cherries that were really yummy.
Oh i forgot to say Naples is a dump.... Its dirty and smelly and not really pretty to look at except for the seaside. To top it off it was raining for the first day until Dasha asked apollo for sun. The people however are really fantastic!
The next day we were supposed to leave but the skies were bright blue and we were due for a beach day. Dasha found a really nice beach in a place called Meta (about 1 hour away). Not much to say about this day other than the water was nice and clear and really warm and the sun was steaming hot!!! We had awesome gelato to cool off and when we got home we discovered that I had tured a nice shade of red. I was chocolate on my legs, strawberry on my thighs and vanilla further up. We slept then headed for Rome
